Consultant in Pain Medicine

Biography:

30 years practice as Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia. Usually consults in Glasgow or Dundee and is able to travel throughout Scotland and UK if required.


20 years medico-legal practice instructed by both claimant and defendant. Instructed by a range of solicitors and by the medical defense agencies and NHS legal departments. 


Specialist areas include chronic pain after injury including CRPS, post-operative pain relief, diagnosis and treatment of chronic and neuropathic pain. Instructed by both pursuers and defenders in personal injury and clinical negligence cases.. Opinion and decision making in pain conditions is often complex and he is well used to consulting with Counsel.


Recognized as a key opinion leader. He sat on Scottish Government’s Chronic Pain Steering Group and was a member of the national guideline development group which produced SIGN 136: Management of Chronic Pain. Advisor to Scottish Medicines Consortium. Has led both anaesthesia and pain services for NHS Tayside.


Has lectured internationally, authored 27 peer-reviewed papers, published one book and authored chapters in others.
