Consultant Neurologist

Biography:

Dr Ed Newman studied Medicine at University of Glasgow and qualified in 2002. He undertook a period of research into Parkinson’s disease and was awarded MD in 2009. He was a Clinical Lecturer in Neurology for University of Glasgow from 2008 to 2013.


In 2013 Dr Newman was appointed Consultant Neurologist at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Dr Newman is a General Neurologist and has a subspecialist interest in movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and tremor.


Dr Newman also has an interest in undergraduate medical education and was appointed Clinical Lead for Neurosciences and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at Glasgow University Medical School in 2014.


Dr Newman is Clinical Lead for the national Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery Service.


Dr Newman has been working with Resolve Medicolegal as an expert witness since 2014 and has completed over 450 reports.


Clinical Interests:

Parkinson's disease, tremor and other movement disorders

Traumatic brain injury.

Medicolegal Experience:

Since 2013 I have completed over 450 medical reports (80% pursuer, 20% defender).  I have completed Bond Solon Training (2016) in Excellence in Report Writing and Courtroom Skills Training.  I am a member (no. 00010799) of the Expert Witness Institute (EWI) and undertook EWI certification on 30/04/2022.  I was an invited speaker at the Scottish Medicolegal Conference (September 2024), Compass Chambers Annual Conference (December 2024), and DWF Client Event Conference (June 2025).
