Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Biography:
Mr Fairbairn graduated from the University of Dundee Medical School. He has a higher academic degree based on research performed at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has completed specialist fellowship training in hand surgery and microvascular reconstruction and is on the specialist register for plastic surgery.
Mr Fairbairn is a substantive NHS consultant plastic surgeon at the Glasgow Royal infirmary, Royal Hospital for Children and Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals. He is plastic surgery clinical lead for the Major Trauma Centre at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he specialises in orthoplastic limb reconstruction. His interests in trauma reconstruction extend to the head and neck, trunk, hand, upper limb and burns. He has additional sub-specialty interests in sarcoma, perineal reconstruction, hand surgery and skin cancer. Within the private sector, Mr Fairbairn maintains a specialist interest in aesthetic breast surgery, facial rejuvenation and body contouring surgery.
Mr Fairbairn is clinical governance lead for the department of plastic surgery at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and is director of professional standards and CPD at the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow. He is first author of many peer reviewed publications and is a regular reviewer for leading international plastic surgery journals such as JPRAS and PRS. He is a member of the Expert Witness Institute and accepts medicolegal instruction through Resolve Medicolegal Ltd.
