Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine

Biography:

In 2004, Dr Whymark began work as a consultant in anaesthesia and pain medicine at University Hospital Crosshouse, Ayrshire. She holds fellowships by examination of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London (FRCA), and the faculty of pain management (FFPMRCA). She holds a diploma in legal medicine from the Royal College of Physicians (DLM). She has appeared in court twice in the last five years.

Dr Whymark is instructed by solicitors representing pursuers and defenders in a ratio of approximately 60:40 in personal injury and clinical negligence cases. She is regularly instructed by the CLO and NHS Resolution. She has provided opinion evidence in several recent high-value cases.

Dr Whymark is particularly passionate about the understanding of chronic pain and the overlap with psychological conditions, functional disorders, and somatic symptoms. This is an area where knowledge continues to develop rapidly; these conditions are underpinned by mechanisms other than the traditional biomedical model and this has led to a different approach to diagnosis and treatment.

Dr Whymark has a talent for presenting complicated concepts concisely and in plain English. She attends workplaces to deliver bespoke pain education tailored to specific case loads or continuing professional development (CPD) needs. She presents regularly at Medicolegal conferences.
