Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with Specialist Interest in Hand and Upper limb Surgery

Biography:

Mr Duncan Macdonald is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon in Glasgow with an interest in condtions of the hand and upper limb. Graduating from the University of Glasgow in 2000 he also completed an intercalated degree in Sports Medicine in 1997. He completed Specialist Registrar training in the West of Scotland in 2011 including fellowship training at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby in addition to travelling fellowships to the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, USA. He was appointed as a Consultant to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley in 2011 and then moved to join the team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in 2014. He was awarded the Diploma of Hand Surgery from the University of Manchester in 2013. In addition to managing traumatic conditions of the upper limb he has developed an interest in work related upper limb disorders including vibration injury and is a trained assessor in hand arm vibration syndrome accredited by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He is also affiliated to the Healthy Working Lives Group at the University of Glasgow where he regularly lectures on their courses.

Traumatic conditions of the upper limb including neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand

Work related upper limb disorders

Vibration injury including hand arm vibration syndrome, Carpal tunnel Syndrome, Whole Body Vibration

Medicolegal Experience:


Mr Macdonald has regularly undertaken medicolegal work since 2014. He has received training on the Bond Salon Report Writing course and has full membership of the Expert Witness Institute. He undertakes reports on behalf of the pursuer and defender with a 90:10 ratio of instructions.
