Consultant Emergency Medicine

Biography:

Mike attended St. Andrews and Manchester Universities for his medical undergraduate training and graduated in 1997. He spent the first 5 years of his career working as a Senior House Officer in Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Critical care and Anaesthesia before travelling to Australia to work as Registrar in Emergency Medicine. Mike returned to Scotland in 2005 and completed his Specialist Registrar training in Emergency Medicine at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in 2008. Mike pursued a sub-specialty interest in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine and trained with Careflight Retrieval Service in Sydney and London's Air Ambulance. He was appointed as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Ninewells Hospital in 2009 and as a Consultant in Retrieval Medicine with the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service in Glasgow in 2011.


Mike continues to work as a full time Emergency Medicine Consultant and works as a Topside Consultant providing emergency medical advice to the offshore oil and gas industry.

Medicolegal Experience:

Mike has extensive medicolegal experience and receives regular instructions for liability and causation claims from both pursuers and defenders. He is a certified expert witness with the Expert Witness Institute. In addition to medical negligence opinion, Mike also undertakes medical reports pertaining to personal injury claims and has extensive experience in conducting these consultations remotely via video conference where appropriate. He has provided expert evidence at Fatal Accident Inquiries.
