He has been active in medico-legal practice since 2018, preparing expert reports for both pursuer and defender instructions. His areas of medico-legal expertise include:

  1. Soft tissue injury claims: neck, back, and whiplash-type injuries
  2. Lower limb trauma with particular expertise in the knee – including fractures, ligament injuries, cartilage and meniscal injuries, post-traumatic arthritis, and functional outcomes

Drawing on his specialist knee practice and extensive experience managing both trauma and complex reconstructive surgery, Mr Mullen offers a deep clinical insight into the assessment of knee injuries, from sports-related trauma to high-energy fractures. This enables him to provide a detailed and realistic prognosis for recovery, rehabilitation, and long-term functional impact.

He is known for producing clear, balanced, and evidence-based reports, accessible to both legal and non-medical audiences. His reports are prepared to a consistently high standard, with attention to detail and an emphasis on:

  1. Impartiality and objectivity
  2. Clarity of explanation and use of plain English

As both a high-volume knee surgeon and trauma specialist, Mr Mullen is uniquely positioned to assess the short- and long-term impact of knee and lower limb injuries on function, work, sport, and daily living.
