Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgeon with a special interest in burn injuries, scarring, skin cancer, and complex reconstructive problems

Biography:

Mr Arkoulis is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgeon based in Glasgow, working within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. He is also the Chair of the British Burn Association, reflecting his national leadership in burn care, standards, and education.


He is Clinical Lead of the Scottish National Burn Centre, a nationally commissioned service providing specialist care for patients with complex burn injuries across Scotland. His practice encompasses the full spectrum of burn care, from acute management through to long-term reconstruction and scar optimisation.


Mr Arkoulis is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast), a mark of advanced specialist training and accreditation in the field. He is also the West of Scotland Plastic Surgery Training Lead, with responsibility for the training and development of future plastic surgeons.


In addition to his burns practice, Mr Arkoulis has subspecialist expertise in melanoma and advanced skin cancer, including complex oncological reconstruction. He also has extensive experience in hand trauma, lower limb reconstruction, and the management of complex wounds.


A significant part of his practice involves the treatment of scarring and disfigurement, including advanced scar revision techniques, drawing on his experience in burns and reconstructive surgery.


He completed higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery in the UK and undertook advanced fellowship training in burns. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and is actively involved in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.


Mr Arkoulis provides clear, balanced, and pragmatic second opinions for patients, particularly in cases involving burn injuries, scarring, skin cancer, and complex reconstructive problems. His practice is focused on reconstructive and medically indicated conditions, and he does not routinely offer opinions on purely aesthetic or cosmetic procedures.

He has an LL.M. degree in Healthcare Law and Ethics from the University of Dundee and a Diploma in Forensic Medical Sciences from the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries.

He is a Certified Member of the Expert Witness Institute.

He has been undertaking medicolegal work since 2020.
