Biography:

Dr Peter Thomson FRCP MD is a Consultant Nephrologist at the Glasgow Renal & Transplant Unit, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. He also has practicing privileges at Ross Hall Hospital, Circle Health, Glasgow.

A graduate of the University of Glasgow, he completed his medical degree with honours in 2002, and was awarded an MD in 2010, before being appointed as Consultant Nephrologist in 2012. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Scottish Patient Safety Program, and a Certified Member of the Expert Witness Institute. Dr Thomson is an Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Glasgow and has research interests in vascular access, kidney replacement therapy, and patient-centred care. He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications, including several roles as a principal or co-investigator in clinical trials. He is a frequent invited speaker having presented regularly at the European Renal Association, UK Dialysis Conference, Vascular Access Society of Britain and Ireland, and Scottish Renal Association.

Dr Thomson holds national roles in the Scottish Renal Association, the Scottish Renal Registry and the UK Kidney Association, where he has written guidelines and currently sits on the Ethics and Law Committee.

Dr Thomson has undertaken medicolegal work since 2019, taking instruction from Pursuers, Defenders and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service of Scotland.
